Derivates (products/instruments)
A financial instrument is called a derivative when its cost/return ratio is determined by the cost/return parameters of other primary instruments called "underlying assets", which may be raw materials, exchange rates, interest rates, securities, or equity indices. They are generally designed to modify the contracting party's exposure to market risks. They include futures, options, swaps and forward agreements, among others.
